This Sunday, September 14th 2008, we celebrate the Exaltation of the Holy Cross - a double anniversary on this day: the discovery of the Lord’s Cross in 320A.D. by empress, St. Helena - mother of the emperor Constantine the Great and the dedication of the basilica of the Holy Sepulcher built above the Calvary and the Tomb of Jesus in 335A.D. After the Holy Masses at. 5.00pm, Saturday; 8.30 & 10.30 during this weekend will be veneration of the Cross, after Holy Communion. OUR LADY OF SORROWS – September 15. On Monday, September 15 we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. By the 14th c., the sorrows of Mary numbered 7: 1. The presentation of Jesus in the Temple; 2. The flight into Egypt; 3. Jesus being lost in Jerusalem; 4. The meeting of Mary and Jesus on the way to Calvary; 5. The Crucifixion; 6. The taking down of Jesus’ body from the Cross; 7. Jesus’ burial. RECEPTION IN THE PARISH HALL There will be a parish reception on every First Sunday of each month; immediately following the 10:30 Mass. Hot dogs and other goodies will be sold. Come join us. Text Box: Sunday Scripture The Cross of Christ has redeemed the world. This feast of the Exaltation of the Cross calls us to rejoice and give thanks for how an instrument of death has become the source of our salvation. For, through His death upon the cross, Jesus defeated the power of evil, reconciled us to the Father and won forgiveness for our sins. So, let us lift our eyes to the Cross, for by it we are saved. The reading from Philippians describes poetically how the Son of God humbled himself in becoming human and obediently accepted death on a cross for the sake of our salvation. In the Gospel, Jesus tells Nicodemus that God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son so that whoever believes in him might have eternal life.
