Text Box: Sunday Scripture

The Cross of Christ has redeemed the world.
This feast of the Exaltation of the Cross calls us to rejoice and give thanks for how an instrument of death has become the source of our salvation. For, through His death upon the cross, Jesus defeated the power of evil, reconciled us to the Father and won forgiveness for our sins. So, let us lift our eyes to the Cross, for by it we are saved.
The reading from Philippians describes poetically how the Son of God humbled himself in becoming human and obediently accepted death on a cross for the sake of our salvation. In the Gospel, Jesus tells Nicodemus that God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son so that whoever believes in him might have eternal life.
