Text Box: Sunday Scripture
It is God's plan that those who are joined in matrimony are to remain together for life. The first two chapters of the Book of Genesis offer two different stories of creation. The one we hear today emphasizes how God instituted matrimony at the very dawn of creation. As He created man and woman to be suitable partners for one another and to join themselves together in a oneness of love for the whole of their lives.
The reading from Genesis recounts how God created man and woman to be loving partners for one another. Hebrews reminds us that Jesus humbly became one of us and offered his life on the cross to win our salvation. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches that no one is to divide those who have been joined together by God in holy matrimony.
