Text Box: BLESSING OF EXPECTANT MOTHERS Will be this weekend (October 4/5) during Sat. 5.00PM, Sunday 8.30AM & 10.30AM Masses. FIRST HOLY COMMUNION CHILDREN Children of the First Holy Communion Class will receive their Rosary on next Sunday, October 12, 2008 during the 10.30am Holy Mass. MONTH OF THE HOLY ROSARY The month of October is dedicated to Mary under the name of the Most Holy Rosary; October 7 is celebrated as the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. In the 15th & 16th centuries, there were extensive promotions of devotion to the Rosary. On October 7, 1571, Christians won an important naval battle against the Moslem Turks at Lepanto (near Greece). The credit for the victory was thought to be the rosary. Pius V ordered that the annual anniversary of this victory be celebrated with a Marian feast of Our Lady of Victory. In 1573, Holy Father Gregory XIII permitted churches to celebrate a feast of the Holy Rosary. After another victory against the Moslem Turks in 1716, Clement XI extended the feast to the universal church. Text Box: Sunday Scripture God is the Master of the vineyard, from whom all blessings come. Each of us is called to be a worker in God’s vineyard. If we lose sight of who owns the vineyard, however, we can get into trouble. If we start to think that we are our own lord and master, we may forget that obedience to God—the Master of all– is the only true way to achieve success, which for us, is eternal life. Today’s first reading tells of God’s generosity toward the Israelites, and how they repeatedly wasted his blessings. In the second reading, Paul gives encouragement to the Philippians to put their trust in Jesus. The Gospel shows that judgment will be severe for those who reject God’s Son and misuse his blessings.
