Text Box: FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING IN THE EXTRAORDINARY RITE, THIS SUNDAY, OCT. 26 On the last Sunday in October in the Tridentine Rite Calendar, we celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King. This is the principal feast of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest. On that day, we will give “great honor and glory to Our Lord and King, the Founder of the Church” (PP Pius XI.) In the pews you can find special envelopes to support the Seminary of the Institute. Place this donation in the special Box in the Vestibule of the church and at the side entrance. PRIESTHOOD SUNDAY - OCTOBER 26 Today; on Sunday, Oct. 26, Catholic parishes throughout the United States will show support for their priests with prayer, celebration and dialogue. The last Sunday of October is designated annually as Priesthood Sunday (also known as World Priest Day)coordinated by the USA Council of Serra International. Priesthood Sunday was established by the National Federation of Priests’ Councils in 2003 to provide a way for Catholic communities to express appreciation for devoted priests who serve them so faithfully. Such a celebration is increasingly relevant in light of the declining number of priests in the United States. Only about 4,000 of the 19,000 parishes in this country currently have more than one priest. Many priests serve two or more parishes by themselves. Clearly, there is a great need for a show of love and support Text Box: Sunday Scripture Jesus commands us to love God completely and love our neighbor as ourselves. The opponents of Jesus were trying to trick him by their questions, but Jesus was more than ready for the challenge. He came to earth not to abolish the law, but to clarify and fulfill it. He made it clear that all the other commandments flow from loving God and neighbor. Now, we are challenged to live accordingly. Today’s first reading reminds the Israelites to be helpful to those in need, and to be honest in all transactions. Paul’s letter encourages his readers to continue living their faith and setting an example for others. In the Gospel, Jesus declares that the entirety of the Law flows from the commandments to love God and to love one’s neighbor as oneself.
