Text Box: MISSION SUNDAY OCTOBER 19th. October is the traditional month of universal mission; the Mission Sunday collection takes place around the world in October each year in every single Church throughout the world, including the poorest, and these donations are used to assist missionaries and to fund a range of pastoral projects in Young Churches. The theme for Mission Month and Mission Sunday 2008 is 'Go And Tell'. The Mission Sunday celebration and collection will take place on the weekend of October 18/19th. Mission Sunday is about supporting Young Churches and missionaries in meeting the spiritual and material needs of their communities. Mission Sunday is one day of the year which is set aside for Catholics worldwide to recommit themselves to the Church’s missionary activity through prayer, through sacrifice and a financial gift. Christ's suffering, death and Resurrection defeated sin and death. If we want to share in Christ's Resurrection, we must be willing to sacrifice, as well. Our sacrifice may be a small inconvenience or something major done in order to be faithful to God's will. As we choose Christ's way, we can live in hope of sharing eternal life, the ultimate victory. Today's first reading speaks of God's suffering servant, who will justify many. In the second reading, we hear about Jesus, the great merciful high priest, who can sympathize with our weakness because he also was tested, yet was without sin. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches that in God's Kingdom, those who seek greatness are to be the servants of all.
