Catholic Men in the World — Standing with St. Joseph
Saturday, October 31, 2009 at the Cathedral of Christ the Light
We are told, by the revelation of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, that God is "Father." He is, in fact, "Our Father." Created in the image and likeness of God, we men, in particular, are also called to be 'fathers,' all of us spiritually, and many of us biologically. How can we be fathers, how can we be Catholic men, in a world that often seems to reject fatherhood?
The Second Vatican Council tells us that "The apostolate in the social milieu, that is, the effort to infuse a Christian spirit into the mentality, customs, laws, and structures of the community in which one lives, is so much the duty and responsibility of the laity that it can never be performed properly by others." (Apostolicam Actuositatem, 13) We are called by God to "contribute to the sanctification of the world, as from within like leaven." (Christifideles Laici, 15).
This conference is intended to give each of us new insights as to how to best live out our vocation as Catholic men. It will inform and inspire, encourage and challenge, each of us to be better men, and to restore a deep dimension of fatherhood to a society that so desperately needs it.
