Text Box: PRAYER FOR ALL THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED During the month of November, we will pray every day 1 decade of the Rosary after all Holy Masses for all the faithful departed and a Novena (9 days) of Holy Masses were celebrated for their intentions. During the first 8 days of November, we were able to receive a Plenary Indulgence and offer this indulgence for the deceased; on other days of the year it is partial. The doctrine and practice of indulgences in the Church are closely linked to the effects of the Sacrament of Penance. “An indulgence is a remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven, which the faithful Christian, who is duly disposed, gains under certain prescribed conditions through the action of the Church which, as the minister of redemption, dispenses and applies with authority the treasury of the satisfactions of Christ and the Saints. (Catechism of the Catholic Church. 1471) An indulgence, applicable only to the Souls in Purgatory, is granted to the faithful, who devoutly visit a church or cemetery and pray, even if only mentally, for the departed. Conditions for Indulgences are as follows: Confession, Holy Communion, prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father: Our Father & Hail Mary. Text Box: Sunday Scripture Within each of us is a sacred, a temple of the Holy Spirit. As children of God, we are to honor and respect sacred spaces , such as churches, temples, synagogues and mosques. At the same time, we are to realize that God is not confined to these holy places. We give witness to God’s presence as we show love and respect for his creation, especially for poor and hurting people throughout the world. Today’s first reading recalls Ezekiel’s vision of water flowing from the temple as a sign of God’s overflowing blessings. The second reading teaches that our very bodies are temples. In the Gospel, Jesus cleanses the Temple of worldly influences. Jesus also speaks of the temple of his body being destroyed and in three days being raised up again.
