Text Box: Sunday Scripture
We believe that we will rise from the dead and look on the face of God. What meaning would there be in living as God wills for us to live if there were no hope of eternal life with him? The very reason we gather to worship together as a community of faith is our belief in the resurrection of the body and the hope of eternal life. We proclaim this belief in our Creed–our profession of faith–and by the way we live.
Today's first reading tells of a family that is able to face martyrdom because of their faith and the hope of eternal life. Paul encourages his listeners to rely on the Lord in their time of trial. In the Gospel, the Sadducees pose a question to trap Jesus. He avoids this by teaching that life in heaven is nothing like life on earth.
