MAY GOD REWARD YOUR GENEROSITY. Text Box: SOLEMNITY OF CHRIST THE KING - this Sunday, November 23rd This Sunday November 23rd we celebrating the Solemnity of Christ the King. It is the last Sunday of the Liturgical Year. The Solemnity of Christ the King is a Holy Day in the liturgical calendar of the Roman Catholic Church. This feast was instituted by Pope Pius XI on 11 December in 1925 in his encyclical ''Quas Primas''. At that time, he saw the rise of Atheism, Communism and Secularism as a direct result of man's turning away from Christ's sovereignty, and man's denying of the authority of Christ's Church. This result was "disorder" or a move away from the Divine Order. The Feast of Christ the King was set on the last Sunday in October. After the Second Vatican Council, the calendar reforms of 1969 moved the date of the Feast of Christ the King to the last Sunday before the next liturgical year's Advent. Today’s solemnity calls us to acclaim our Lord Jesus Christ as King of the universe and Lord of all creation. In addition, it serves to remind us that, after we die, we will each have to stand before Christ to give an account of how we lived. One thing on which Jesus will judge us stringently is whether—and how– we assisted others. The first reading, from Ezekiel, tells us that God will work to gather his children, who are scattered about, back to himself. The second reading reminds us that,, through Adam all people die, but, through Christ, all are offered eternal life. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches that if one truly hopes to enter into eternal life in heaven one must assist others.
