Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest

Text Box: New Apostolates in France

The most Reverend Bishop of Grenoble has entrusted to the Institute a jewel of Gothic architecture, the Collegiate church of St. Andre, in which St. Francis de Sales has preached several times and the holy Cure of Ars was ordained to the priesthood. The Institute has also been invited to serve and offer daily Mass at the magnificent church of Notre Dame de Cordeliers in the Diocese of Laval.

New Apostolate in Holy Father's Hometown

At the request of the Archbishop of Munich-Freising, the Institute now offers Holy Mass each Sunday morning in the city of Traunstein, Germany, where our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI spent many of his younger years attending the minor seminary. He also celebrated his first Mass in a parish church of the town.
Text Box: “I am full of confidence as I renew today my entrustment of the Oratory to the Institute of Christ the King, for whom “doing the truth in love,” is much more than an ecclesial motto – but indeed, a dynamic interior motive of outgoing apostolic love. Through Monsignor Schmitz, I express my profound thanks to Reverend Monsignor Gilles Wach, Founder and Prior General of the Institute, for his solicitude to the Diocese, in providing this spiritual foundation for our Oratory.”
                                                                      – Most Reverend Robert W. Finn,

Text Box: Purgatory

The Catholic Church teaches that Purgatory is the state of those who died in the state of grace but must undergo purification before they can enjoy the Beatific Vision. They are holy souls who are assured of salvation, but poor souls because they are still in need of purification. The faithful are urged by the Church, especially during the month of November to exercise compassion and charity to help the poor souls in Purgatory by offering prayers, fasts, alms, indulgences, and most importantly, by having Masses said for them. In return, they will surely help us too, not to be outdone in charity.
Sometimes the Church’s doctrines are vividly illustrated by stories and colorful anecdotes from the treasury of traditions. Here is an example:
From Little Flowers of St. Francis of Assisi, Chapter 50: “As Brother John was saying Mass on the day after All Saints, for the souls of the dead, as the Church has ordered, he offered with such charity and such compassion the holy sacrifice, which the dead desire above all else we can give them, that he seemed Text Box: CATECHISM CLASSES

Text Box: to be overwhelmed and consumed by the ardour of the feelings which filled his heart; and when he lifted up the Body of Christ and devoutly offered it to God the Father, entreating him, for the love of his blessed Son Jesus Christ, who had died on the cross for the souls of men, to deliver from the pains of purgatory the souls of the dead which he had created and redeemed, he saw immediately an immense number of souls go out from purgatory, like innumerable sparks of fire coming out of a burning oven; and he saw them go up to heaven, through the merits of the Passion of Christ, who is daily offered for the living and the dead in that most holy sacrifice, which is worthy to be adored for ever and ever.”
