Text Box: DEVOTION TO THE SACRED HEART Devotion to the Sacred Heart is a wor­shipful relationship to the person of Christ and his redeeming love, under the aspect or symbol of his heart. Historical Evolution: Between A.D. 800 and 1000, Jesus’ heart evolved as a symbol for the venerable devotion to the humanity and wounds of Christ. St. John Eudes (1601—1680) promoted devotion to the Sacred Heart and to the Heart of Mary, prompting Pope Pius XI to call him the Father of the Devotion for the Hearts of Jesus and Mary. St. Margaret Mary’s apparitions of Christ (1673—1675), telling of his concern about the indifference and coldness in the world in response to his love. He asked her to promote: a. devotion to His Sacred Heart, symbolic of His love for all; b. frequent Holy Communion in a spirit of reparation, especially on the first Fridays of the month; Holy Hours and other devotions. 4. Through St. Margaret Mary Alacoque’s Jesuit spiritual director, Claude de la Colombiere, promotion by the Jesuits became part of their institute, notably through the Apostleship of Prayer (Sacred Heart League), who popularized the Morning Offering and widely distributed the Sacred Heart badge. Pope Pius XII encyclical in 1956 on the Sacred Heart, “Haurietis Aquas.” ALTAR BOY TRAINING For those boys interested in deepening their understanding and ability to serve God in the Novus Ordo (English & Latin) Liturgy there will be an All - Day Altar Boy Training Session, on Saturday, June 6th, from 9:00am to 2:30pm at St. Margaret Mary Church in Oakland. Lunch will be provided. It is a Catholic Boys greatest Honor to serve our Lord. New Servers are welcomed to attend. Come and meet the Pastor and other Altar Boys. Please come early and attend the 8:00am Holy Mass. Breakfast will be served. Learn to: Build responsibility, appreciation of the liturgy, dedication to the Church, Tour the church, and learn to serve for Processions & Benedictions; special emphasis will be on training for the Corpus Christi Liturgy & Procession on June 14th. FATHERS DAY - Sunday - June 21 & NOVENA OF HOLY MASSES FOR OUR FATHERS The Third Sunday of June is celebrated as “FATHERS’ DAY”. In our Parish Church, a NOVENA (nine) Holy Masses will be celebrated for the Intentions of our Fathers (living or dead). Our Fathers deserve our Honor, Love and Respect. We pray for them, during Holy Masses on June 21 at 8.30AM & 12.30PM; June 22 at 8.00AM; June 23 at 6.00PM; June 24 at 8.00AM; June 25 at 6.00PM June 27 at 10.00AM & 5.00PM; and June 28 at 10.30AM A special Memorial Book for our Fathers, living or deceased, will be placed in our Church in front Text Box: of St. Joseph. A letter with information about the Novena of Holy Masses was send to all our Parishioners by mail. Additional forms are also available in our Church. PARISH LIBRARY NEWS: Thank you to everyone who donated, sorted or bought books during the last two book sales. We will have another book sale on Sunday June 7 from 9am to 1 pm.: $1 per book or $5 per bag-full. Come help us raise money to purchase needed books for the library.
