Text Box: Sunday Scripture

Our human efforts cannot surpass the power of prayer. Our Baptism calls us to bear witness to the truth of Christ's death and Resurrection; to love others as God has loved us; and to live a life worthy of a disciple of Christ. One thing necessary to do these things is to regularly pray to God, through Jesus, for the help and guidance we need.
The Apostles and others pray to the Lord before they elect Matthias as the successor to Judas. In the Gospel, Jesus prays to His Father, asking Him to protect the Apostles from the evils of the world and to consecrate them in the truth. In the second reading, the early Christians are reminded to love one another in imitation of the love of God.
