Sunday Scripture

We are to be faithful to Jesus in the triumphs and sorrows of our lives. As we enter Holy Week, our Gospel recalls the contradictory experiences of Jesus–the triumphant entrance into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday and then his Passion and death. These contrasting events can help to remind us of our call to be faithful to Jesus in the daily up-and-down realities–the triumphs and sorrows–of our lives.

Today's first reading is Isaiah's prophecy regarding the servant of God who suffers greatly for the people. In the second reading, Paul teaches that the humility and obedience of Jesus to the will of the Father brought him to be glorified by God. The Gospel is Luke's account of the Passion and death of Jesus.
