LENT Lent is a time of prayer, fasting & almsgiving. In addition to this traditional trio, we give you some other(10) suggestions: 1. Stations of the Cross (every Friday after the 8:00 AM & 6:00 PM Masses). 2. Rosary (pray for peace around the world and in our families; vocations, etc.) 3. Extra daily Holy Mass. 4. Lenten Lamentations (all Sundays of Lent at 5:00 PM; 5. Sacred Scripture reading. 6. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament (Fridays from 2:00 to 3:15 PM & Saturdays from 4:00 to 4:45 7. Self-denial of special foods, drinks, tobacco or TV programs. 8. Visit the sick or the homebound. 9. Almsgiving to the poor. 10. Come always on time and stay till the end of the Holy Mass. Wait till the Last Blessing. Give to Do you have additional ideas? Try to do something extra for God, neighbor and for yourself. Put these ideas into action!!!!!!! PLEASE SHARE YOUR FOOD WITH HUNGRY PEOPLE. PLEASE TAKE HOME A “RICE BOWL” from the vestibule of the church. We will collect this money on Palm Sunday, April 5, 2009. A LIST OF “GIVE UPS” FOR LENT 1. Fr. Joseph Kowalczyk M.M. was born in 1927 in Schenectady, N.Y. After graduating from Union College as an electrical engineer and working six years for the General Electric Co. in Schenectady, N.Y., he entered the minor seminary of Maryknoll in June, 1954. After seven years of religious formation, he was ordained on June 10, 1961 and assigned to the Maryknoll Mission in Peru, South America. For the first ten years, he was dedicated to the formation of young Aymara and Quecbua boys in seminaries in Puno and Arequipa, Peru. The next ten years he was assigned to pastoral work in various large parishes in the “altiplano” around the shores of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world at 12,800 feet above sea level. From 1986 to 1998, he was striving to establish new parishes among the Aymara and Quechua people who migrated from. the highlands to the desert sands in the outskirts of Tacna, a city near the Atlantic coast on the border of Chile. In 1998, he was assigned to mission promotion work in the USA; two years out of Buffalo, N.Y., one year out of Houston, TX., and currently out of San Leandro, CA, while residing in the Maryknoll Retirement Home in Los Altos, CA. While continuing to work part-time on mission promotion as a member in “retirement status”, he is also promoting a prayer apostolate for the increase of religious vocations for Maryknoll and the Church.
