BITTER LAMENTATIONS & STATIONS: Lenten Vespers (sung Evening Prayer) about the sufferings and death of Our Lord Jesus Christ will be celebrated every Sunday of Lent at 5:00 PM; except March 28 at 4.30); followed by Benediction and Holy Mass. Please come and invite others to participate in these beautiful Vespers. Stations of the Cross are recited every Friday after the Holy Masses. PLEASE TAKE HOME A “RICE BOWL” from the vestibule of the church. We will collect this money on Palm Sunday, March 28, 2010. This is a Lenten program of CRS, the official overseas relief & development agency working on behalf of the Catholic community in the USA. 75% of your gifts to Operation Rice Bowl come to CRS to fund development projects overseas and Lenten education efforts in the USA. Twenty-five percent of contributions support hunger & poverty alleviation efforts in dioceses in the USA. Collection on Ash Wednesday is for the St. Vincent de Paul Society to feed the hungry people in Oakland. We are also collecting imperishable food items. In the vestibule of our church, barrels for food are placed. “I was hungry and you gave me food.” PLEASE SHARE YOUR FOOD WITH HUNGRY PEOPLE. |
Sunday Scripture Reconciled with God through Christ, we are to work for reconciliation, healing and unity in the world. As Christians, we are to live a life that fosters reconciliation and love. Through faith in Jesus and unity with him in Baptism, we have been reconciled with God. We can share this gift with others by proclaiming the presence and power of God's reconciling love, and by being merciful and compassionate ourselves. As the Israelites prepared to enter the Promised Land they remembered how God freed them from slavery and provided for them. In the second reading, Paul calls the Corinthians to live out their new life in Christ through a ministry of reconciliation. In the Gospel, God's mercy and love are shown in the parable of the prodigal son. |
