Sunday Scripture

We are called to know the Lord ever more deeply. As we search for ways to deepen our relationship with God, we need to maintain an ongoing conversation with him from our innermost heart. An honest quest to know God can lead us to serve him better by genuinely offering our time, talent and treasure. In this way, we also help to build up His Kingdom here on earth.

Hosea admonishes the people to strive to know the Lord, who prefers love over sacrifice. In our second reading, Paul speaks of Abraham’s faith, whereby he trusted God to keep his promises. In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells the Pharisees that they need to learn the meaning of the Scripture that says God desires mercy, not sacrifice.
