CORPUS CHRISTI The Glorious Feast of Corpus Christi is next Sunday, June 14. There will be a procession around the block with the Blessed Sacrament immediately following the 10:30 Mass. Help is needed starting at 9:30 to set up the 4 altars representing the four corners of the world. After 10.30AM Holy Mass while carrying the Blessed Sacrament, we shall stop at four outdoor altars for the visible display of the Blessed Sacrament in a monstrance. This year, as we walk together, there will be prayers, the Gospel, with supplications sung, and blessings with the Blessed Sacrament (Benediction). At the fourth altar, blessings will be extended to the four corners of the world. All First Holy Communion girls (of this and previous years), and other children, please come in your white dresses to sprinkle floral petals in front of the Blessed Sacrament during the Processions. All First Holy Communion boys of this and last years & other boys, please come in your suits & ties to also participate in this Procession. For more information, please contact Valerie Burkart at: valzb@sbcglobal.net or 925-683-9572. We need strong men to help set the altars in different parts of the church property; and also volunteers to help drape the altars with cloths and set out candles and flower vases. Your help is essential for all this getting done! Please contact Lily Mullen if you can help with this beautiful tradition of Our Church at (925)827-1946, or lily.mullen@gmail.com |

Sunday Scripture Today we celebrate the solemnity of Pentecost as we commemorate the coming of the Holy Spirit. As the Church, we rejoice today in the gift of the Holy Spirit, given that we might grow and fully share in the divine life of Christ. As the Holy Spirit lives within us we gather with confidence and joy. We know that God pours out power and strength upon us, that we might witness by our words and actions that Jesus is Lord. We hear in the first reading that, as the Holy Spirit comes, the once fearful disciples are transformed. Their fear of the Jews gives way to a new courage by which they proclaim Christ's Resurrection. In the Gospel, Jesus bestows the Spirit on the disciples, sends them to do his work, and gives them power to forgive sins. |
