Sunday Scripture Discipleship carries both costs and rewards. The message in today’s Gospel is that discipleship may bring hardships. It may be a struggle to live and share the Good News. The modern disciple might be ridiculed, ostracized, ignored or attacked, but none of that really matters. We are disciples who are highly valued by God and who love Jesus, our Savior. Today’s first reading recounts the trials Jeremiah had to endure as a prophet, yet his trust in God remained strong. In his letter to the Romans, Paul points out that the gift of redemption from sin has been given to us by Jesus. In the Gospel, Jesus assures us that, if we are faithful to God, we need fear nothing. |
