Text Box: Sunday Scripture

They found Jesus too much for them. Sometimes we do not give God a chance. We assume that if we allow God to come near, God will ask us to suffer. Yet, Jesus came that we might have life and live it fully. Jesus wants to heal what is broken and free what is imprisoned, but fear keeps us from drawing near to Jesus. Like those of Jesus' native place, we find Jesus too much for us.
Today's readings focus on the role of a prophet. Sometimes we pose the question, If Jesus were to walk among us today, would we recognize him? Would we listen to him or would we walk away as did those in his hometown? The answer to that question lies in our openness to hear the truth–whatever its source.
