Jesus is the Good Shepherd. The readings today draw us closer to God. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, through the shedding of his blood, has reconciled us with God and with each other. He has broken down the barriers of hostility between us so that we may live in peace. As our Good Shepherd, Jesus provides for us and nourishes us in body and in spirit.
In our first reading, God tells the people that since their shepherds have led them astray, he will raise up a righteous shoot to David. In Ephesians, we hear that because of Jesus, the Christian community has now become one. In our gospel reading, Jesus attempts to provide a brief respite for the Apostles, but there was still much work to do.
