May He bring peace to our families and all the nations of the world. HAPPY NEW YEAR 2009 EPIPHANY OF THE LORD Today we celebrate Epiphany. This day closes out the Christmas season. “Epiphany” comes from the Greek epiphanein, “a showing, appearance, or revelation”. In the Western Church, the Epiphany evolved into a celebration of the gospel story of the visit of the Magi (Matthew 2:1-12) on the occasion of Jesus’ birth; His epiphany to the Gentiles. In the USA, this Feast is transferred to the nearest Sunday (this year, on January 4th). The Blessing Gold, Water, Incense, and Chalk will take place during all Novus Ordo Masses (Sat. Jan. 3rd, 5:00pm and Sunday January 4th ,8:30 & 10:30am) and the Renewal of Baptismal Promises. Please take home the Holy Water for your private use. Text Box: Sunday Scripture Offering ourselves in humble adoration before Jesus enables us to shine like stars leading many to him. Magi from the East were led by a star to Jesus where they prostrated themselves in humble adoration and offered him gifts fit for a king. May we, likewise, humbly adore our Savior, offering our gift of love. With hearts filled with such love we will shine like stars leading many to Christ. Isaiah tells the people of Israel that their light has come and that God’s glory shines upon them. The time will come when all nations shall walk by that same light. In Ephesians, Paul affirms that the Gentiles are co – heirs with the Jews to salvation in Jesus Christ. In the Gospel, Magi from the East are led by a star to Bethlehem and to the child, Jesus
