Every year, we celebrate a Week of Prayer for Unity of all followers of Jesus. The week of Prayer for Christian Unity was initiated in 1908 by the Rev. Paul Wattson in the Episcopal Church in 1908 at Graymoor, in New York’s Hudson Valley;. the Second Vatican Council’s Decree on Ecumenism in 1964; and the formation of the Joint Working Group between the Pontifical Council for Christian Unity and the World Council of Churches.  A world observance, the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is an important expression of ecumenical activity at the local level. Jesus’invitation to gather in His Name, on the meaning such gathering holds for the unity of the Church and the renewal of the human community.

Lent is almost here, but first… our parish’s Mardi Gras Dinner, Dance and Auction Extravaganza!  Today is the last day to purchase your tickets, so don’t delay!  Ticket price will include entry, champagne, dinner, wine and dessert, live music and dancing.  Everyone will have an opportunity to bid on fabulous items in our silent and live auctions (see the Mystic Krewe table for auction item details).

Mystic Krewe staff will be in the vestibule of the church after all Masses to take your reservations and answer questions.  Don't miss out on this fun event and help our parish raise the money to complete the renovation of our church tower!  For more info call Lily Mullen at (510)482-

Sunday Scripture

We are called to be followers of Jesus Christ , who is a light for all nations. Today we hear John the Baptist proclaiming that Jesus is the One whom God will use to take away the sin of the world. John sees the Holy Spirit descend on Jesus and he testifies that Jesus is the Son of God. As followers of Jesus, we are also called to proclaim Him as the Son of God, our Savior.

The words of the prophet Isaiah tell us that God’s servant will be a light to the nations, so that God’s salvation might reach to the ends of the earth. Paul greets the people of Corinth as ones who have been consecrated in Christ Jesus and called to be a holy people. John the Baptist proclaims that Jesus is God’s Chosen One.
