St. Anne’s Guild Corner
This is the last week to purchase tickets for Carnival Christi: Le Quatrième Mardi Gras, our fourth annual Mardi Gras Dinner Dance and Auction on February 26, 2011. Tickets are $75 each for general admission and $150 for benefactor tickets. We accept credit cards.
Christopher Mendieta of Masterpiece Catering will present a wonderful New Orleans inspired dinner, and we are featuring two bands—a Dixieland Jazz band during the cocktail hour and the BluesBox Bayou Band, of Zydeco dance fame. The live auction includes a Crawdad Festival with Bishop Cordileone, 7 Nights at Borgo di Vagli in Tuscany and an uniquely adorned Prie-dieu from a convent in the South of France.
This year’s Mardi Gras is dedicated to both the St. Margaret Mary Building Fund and to the Order of Malta Health Clinic at the Cathedral of Christ the Light. The Order of Malta Health Clinic is an independently run medical clinic serving the poor and uninsured community of Oakland. We will be working with the Knights of Malta to raise money for both our causes, and, in advance, thank you for your charity.
The St. Margaret Mary Building Fund proceeds will be dedicated to the lighting and general security of our church, rectory and parish hall. These systems are woefully outdated increasing our risk for thief and threatening the general safety of our clergy and parishioners.

Text Box: Sunday Scripture
You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus teaches us by word and example to love our neighbor. We can rightly ask, who is my neighbor? Does Jesus mean only those who are related to me? Does it include the person next door? How about the stranger, the immigrant, the foreigner or the refugee? Does he also mean my enemy? Scripture teaches that it is all of these.
Our first reading prescribes how to grow in holiness and in our relationship with God and others. In the second reading, we are told that we are temples of the Holy Spirit. In the Gospel, Jesus takes the teaching to love our neighbor as ourselves, which is found in our first reading, and expands it to include loving our enemies.
Text Box: Last week, the second collection for the Bishop’s Appeal Fund amounted to $ 956.00. This week, the 2nd collection is for the Church in Central & Eastern Europe Fund. Next week, the 2nd collection will be for the Parish Development Fund. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF OUR PARISH. MAY GOD REWARD YOUR GENEROSITY.
