Sunday Scripture

As Christians, we can know the transforming power of Christ. Jesus led Peter, James and John up the mountain to witness his Transfiguration. They were commissioned to tell the others about it once Jesus had risen from the dead. The disciples could not understand all that they had seen. Spiritual events in our lives can be just as mysterious, but they can lead us to knowing Christ, the Son of God.

Abram received great promises, which we hear today’s first reading. These promises are fulfilled through the Paschal Mystery of Christ, as Paul says. In the Gospel, Jesus is transfigured by the power of the Holy Spirit, and, from a cloud, the Father’s voice is heard, announcing that Jesus is the Son of God.
