ST. NICHOLAS’ VISIT We invite all children today, after all Sunday Masses December 7th, to meet St. Nicholas in the Parish Hall. BLESSING OF EXPECTANT MOTHERS Will be this weekend, December 6 &7 during Sat. 5.00PM, Sunday 8.30 & 10.30AM Masses. ADVENT – BEGINNING OF THE NEW LITURGICAL YEAR. - The Church has her own special liturgical year and calendar in which she presents the history and mysteries of our salvation, from Creation to the Second Coming, together with the entire life of the Savior. Each Sunday and feast will present a special lesson to us for our daily living. The First Sunday of Advent is therefore the Church's "New Year's Day". In the Judeo-Christian tradition, Sunday begins at sundown of the day before; when the faithful celebrate First Vespers. We started Advent this Saturday, November 29th 5.00pm Holy Mass. FEAST OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE - this week Friday December 12 – This feast recalls the apparitions of Mary at the Hill of Tepeyac from 9 – 12 Dec., 1531, to the native convert, Juan Diego (Feastday Dec. 9); known to the Aztecs as Tecoatlaxope (or de Guadalupe in Spanish), meaning “she will crush the serpent of stone”; declared patroness of the Americas by Pope Pius XII and raised to the rank of feast for all the countries of the Americas by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, March 25, 1999. |

Sunday Scripture We are to remember our own need for repentance. Today’s readings help us focus on the reality of our sin that necessitated the Son of God taking on flesh to redeem us. As we hear today of John the Baptist, we are to remember our own need for repentance and our own mission to make straight the way for the Son of God to be known by those around us. Today’s first reading speaks of hope for the Israelites as God promises to save them and bring them back to himself. The second reading encourages Christ’s followers to be prepared for the final judgment by leading holy lives. The Gospel tells of John the Baptist, fulfilling the prophecy as the one who would prepare the way for the Messiah. |
