The New Covenant lives on in us. Mary responded yes to the request of God to bear his Son. Jesus responded yes to the will of the Father and gave his life for the sake of humankind. We, too, are invited to be part of the New Covenant that Jesus established. We say yes when we act out of love toward those around us and reach out to those in need throughout the world. The prophet Micah declares that a new leader for Israel will come from Bethlehem and will rule in the name of the Lord. In the Gospel, Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, names Mary the mother of the Lord. In Hebrews we hear that Jesus, by his obedience to God the Father, is the one sacrifice of the New Covenant that sanctifies us.
