God’s ways are not our ways. The readings today demonstrate that conventional wisdom is not true: a mighty Savior comes from a lowly place, death on a cross brings life, and an old woman feels her child leap in her womb as a young pregnant virgin greets her. In the final days of Advent, let us put conventional wisdom aside and be attentive to the mystery and wonder of God’s ways. In the first reading, Micah prophesies that the one who is to be the ruler in Israel will come from the lowly clan of Bethlehem-Ephrathah. The Letter to the Hebrews recounts that through the sacrifice of Christ’s body, we have been consecrated. In the Gospel, Mary, who is pregnant with Jesus, goes to visit her cousin Elizabeth. Elizabeth tells Mary she is
