Sunday Scripture Prepare to celebrate the coming of the Lord. We anticipate the great celebration of Christ’s birth by preparing ourselves to receive him anew in our hearts. We do this through penance, service to others and prayer. Our penance is done with hope and love; our service is to extend to the poor, the needy and the lonely. Service to others can be a fitting way to prepare ourselves all year long. Waiting is a theme for today’s readings. Isaiah waits for the jubilee year, when the Lord will make justice and praise spring up before all the nations. Paul waits for the Second Coming of the Lord, who will judge the living and the dead. John the Baptist teaches us that the one the world has been waiting for is already in their midst. |
