Prayer to St. John the Baptist

God, You raised up St. John the Baptist to prepare a perfect people for Christ. Fill Your people with the joy of possessing His grace, and direct the minds of all the faithful in the way of peace and salvation. Grant that, as St. John was martyred for truth and justice, so we may energetically profess our Faith in You, and lead others to the Way, the Truth, and Eternal Life. Amen.
Text Box: Sunday Scripture
Every day we can make sacrifices and offer them to God, showing him we are willing to give him our all. Doing God's will demands making personal sacrifices. We hear this in each of today's readings. All of us are to be willing to undergo suffering for the sake of God's Kingdom. In fact, each day we can consciously find sacrifices we can make as offerings to God, showing that we are willing to give our all for him.
In today's first reading, the prophet rails against God, saying God duped him. Even so, he cannot resist speaking for the Lord; he cannot hold it in. In the second reading, the faithful are called to offer themselves as living sacrifices to God. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches that his disciples must take up their crosses and follow him.
