Text Box: Sunday Scripture

Like Peter, we are to be open to God's grace working in us. Jesus knew that Peter had the ability and the openness to God's grace that would enable him to be a powerful witness. Recognizing this, Jesus placed Peter as the rock on which he would build his Church. Like Peter, we each have a calling. We are to listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and be prepared to step out in faith to fulfill it.
The Lord announces that he is giving Eliakim authority over the house of David. He says he will place the keys of authority on Eliakim's shoulder. In the second reading, we are reminded of the depth of God's wisdom–too much for us to comprehend. In the Gospel, Jesus entrusts Peter with the keys to the Kingdom of heaven.
