Sunday Scripture Jesus has not left us orphans, but has sent the Holy Spirit to be with us forever. Jesus is preparing his disciples for his death and all that will follow. He promises them, and all future generations of Christians, that he will continue to live in them through the presence of his Spirit. Jesus calls on all of us to trust in the Spirit of Truth, who is with us always. Today’s first reading tells of the Samaritans receiving the Holy Spirit. In the second reading, Peter gives spirit—filled words of encouragement to Christians of every generation. In the Gospel, Jesus promises the gift of the Holy Spirit as he prepares the disciples for his death and all that is to follow. |
